Welcome to Horsham, West Sussex - where you have to drive through the town centre and out the other side to get to the park and ride, then take a bus back in.

Why? Because the white elephant - on the south side of the town - was such a disaster that plans for three more were scrapped. And so, if you approach from several directions, you have no other choice.

This site is dedicated to the lunacy which is under way in a town which is being strangled by council bosses. They have devised a system in which commuters, shoppers and visitors have been driven out, while council staff retain more than a staggering 364 cosy parking spaces - up by more than 100 since the start of the park and ride - right in the centre.

As a direct result, there are 150,000 square feet of empty offices, and a sea of "to let" signs. How did the council get us here? Well, no one used the park and ride, so they ramped up all-day parking in the town to £10 in a bid to force other people to use it (and then down to a still-ludicrous £7, only after a huge public outcry). But this didn't work either.
