Information accessed through the Freedom of Information Act has revealed that:
- An extra 72 bus journeys are made into and out of the town, every day, Monday-Saturday - that's 22,464 a year
- The typical capacity of each bus is 53 passengers; but they carry, on average, just 4.1 passengers
- The number of town workers who use park and ride total 180 per day. Given the losses of £155,000 it would be cheaper by £11,000 to buy them all town centre parking permits at £800 each
The council have no knowledge of how much more a bus pollutes than a car, to assess the environmental impact of park and ride. They have therefore been asked by this website if an environmental assessment was compiled as part of the planning process, and how this compares with the reality today.
